Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the City of Farmington. We are located 5 miles west of the University of Arkansas campus in scenic Northwest Arkansas. If you enjoy country living with urban conveniences then Farmington is the place to live. Our city has experienced tremendous growth in the last decade. Our current population of 7584 represents a growth of over 27% in the past 10 years based upon the 2020 Census.

The City of Farmington has a Mayor – City Council form of government. The 8 council seats are elected from 4 wards within the city; with 2 representatives from each ward. An eight member planning commission oversees the development process for our city.

In 2003, the City Administration offices, Police Department and Fire Department moved into a new state of the art facility located at 354 West Main. In 2020, we completed an addition to City Hall to expand our Police Department to accomodate our department of 19 officers. Our Fire Department is now a full time department with 10 Firefighters full time and 20 part time volunteers.   Some of the amenities we offer are a Senior Center, an award winning City Park and the county’s newest Library.

In 2005, a new city Library was established and is located in our old city hall building. A tireless group of volunteers lead by Betty Hummel remodeled our old city hall building and turned it into a wonderful library. In 2014, the Library moved to a larger facility at 175 Cimarron Place. The Library offers a variety of service’s including a children’s story hour, a summer reading program as well as internet access for patrons. Our Library was expanded and remodeled in 2020 to accomodate our growing population and offer more services to our patrons.

In 2002, Creekside Park was established, under the leadership of Alderman Kelly Thomas, and it was named New Facility of the Year in 2003 by the Arkansas Recreation and Parks Association. Creekside Park offers 2 large playgrounds, 2 covered pavilions, 1.25 mile scenic walking trail, basketball courts, restrooms, tennis courts, Fitcore exercise equipment and picnic areas in a beautiful creekside setting. This location also includes an 18 hole disc golf course that is rated as one of the best in Arkansas.

Freedom Fest is a city/community celebration during the 4th of July Holiday that brings our community together for a magnificent fireworks displays that is second to none in the area. A Farmers Market is offered at Creekside Park on Saturdays from April -November which includes crafts , food vendors and music.

The Farmington School system is an excellent and rapidly growing school district with state of the art facilities. A New High School, Fine Arts Center, Basketball Arena, Football Stadium with Indoor Practice Facility, and a track has been completed in the past 5 years. Our Band, Choir, Agri, Drama, and Technology departments are excellent.

Farmington residents will find a wide variety of churches for worship opportunities and ministry services such as child care, youth group and family activities.

Farmington has a good mix of available housing in a price range that would be suitable for first time homeowners up to executive homes with large lots in the $500k price range.

I think you will find the City of Farmington is served by an outstanding group of employees who take great pride in their city and serving the citizens. Come visit us in Farmington and enjoy our great community and meet the friendly folks who call Farmington home. Our moto is  "Farmington Feels Like Home".

Best Regards,
Ernie L. Penn, Mayor
